how to do the mo

bearded beanies to find strength in the coldThe last few weeks have been hairy. Personal life and bikini-line aside, this is the month for the hirsute to show what they’ve got all in aid of a good cause. If you don’t already know about it, and have been afraid to pass comment on the gratuitous amount of facial hair being displayed, let me reassure you it’s for a very great cause – Movember!

Movember is a fundraising and awareness movement where for the month of November, men around the world put down their razors and let their top lip get all furry, all in aid of raising awareness about men’s health – particularly prostate cancer and depression in men. In Australia, these funds are shared between the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation, with money going towards research, education, support, and awareness. For a country steeped in male stoicism, I’m mighty supportive of this cause.

My friend Alex has been pushing out follicles for this cause since I met him 8 or 9 years ago, long before it was the cool thing to do. He has suffered the taunts, copped lip and keeps on growing. Maybe you too will put some money where his mouth is.

This also gives me occasion to share these incredible lumberjack beanies that have been sitting in one of my inspiration folders for many months now. While I’m not really advocating an offshore purchase, these little beauties are too good to not share.

So, if you’re follicle-challenged, and still suffering the cold, it’s not too late to wear one of these.
