clothing deconstruction workshops

Along with food and shelter, clothing is a fundamental physiological need. On a basic level, we need clothing for protection, for modesty and for social integration – with many subsections within these needs.

On a more subtle level, clothing is the silent conversation that precedes our actions, informing other people’s reactions and interactions. Through what we wear and how we wear it, we are able to influence others, forge allegiances, blend in, stand out and just feel better about ourselves. For a few hours, a few months or a few years, one new frock can help you feel like a new you.

Retail therapy is a transitory phenomenon, but it is not a sustainable solution.

In Australia, we spend approximately $1.7 billion each year on clothing and accessories we don’t wear, or wear a few times and dismiss.

We hear a lot of talk about the amount of clothing that is sent to landfill, but in reality, lots of our unworn clothes sit gathering dust in our wardrobes. By altering and redesigning those unworn pieces, we can make a collective difference.

Clothing reconstruction workshops are a fun, inexpensive way to shop within your own wardrobe and I love running them. Click here for upcoming workshops.
